Many people in our country know that they have rights. To complicate matters, the information that is available on rights, benefits and resource that are important to the people with mental health conditions is hard to find at best. However it is out there and we can help each other find what we seek.

It is my hope that through my own work, that I may start this endeavor to centralize the information that is out there. This is by no means an endeavor to be taken upon alone. I ask any who view this site to contact me via email with any information, resources, and contact information that they may feel would lend to the ongoing effort that this site will sure to be.

I would like to thank you all in advance. Coming to this site means that you, or someone you care about is seeking the stability that we all strive to maintain. Reaching out and learning more is always one thing that has helped me on my journey to wellness.

Help Me Get to the Truth

In the creation of a new book Stigma in America(working title) I am requesting that you take the appropriate survey to help in the gathering of information to be used in the book. For those that have a mental illness diagnosis click here for those who are a family member or friend of an individual with a diagnosis click here.

Over Coffee

While working on Stigma in America I have been developing a concept for another book. This book will be a compilation of stories from individuals who have experienced self disclosing their mental illness to another titled Over Coffee: Stories of Self-Disclosure of Mental Illness. These stories can be about any aspect of the experience of disclosing your illness to someone. To be one of these individuals email the story to founder@yourmentalhealthadvocacy.com. Please include in the body of the email whether you want your name included in the story and byline or if you would prefer it not to be used in such. (By emailing your story you certify that the story you are sending may be printed/published in part or in its entirity by the recipient of the content of the email and/or the publisher of the book.)

The couple of Emme and Phillip Aronson tell their story of Phillip's depression and how the two of them went on the journey to wellness. Read the inspirational book that was fetured on The Early Show on the 28th of September.

Trouble getting your medication because of the change from Medicaid to Medicare Part D?

There is help!

Many individuals have not been informed including pharmacists about the contingency plan call WellPoint. WellPoint can be charged for a two week supply of your medication leaving you with a small co-payment until you can get your Medicare Part D coverage. If your pharmacist is not aware of this program direct them to the March 13th MassHealth Fax that has the information they need to get temporary coverage from WellPoint.

You will need to have both your old MassHealth or Network Health card and the Red White and Blue Medicare Part A and B card for your pharmacist. The numbers on these cards are required before you can get the contingency coverage from the WellPoint Plan.

For more information on programs that you can use to help you get medication that you can not afford visit our resources page

The World Health Organization (a United Nations Agency) has posted a commemorative web page, that includes a photo essay showing the deplorable conditions many people with mental health problems experience at the hands of society. Please visit the site at http://www.who.int/features/2005/mental_health/en/index.html and click on the link to the photo essay to see that much work is still needed in the advocacy of mental health issues.
